1907 ~ Ponssen Brothers Kent poultry Farm at the south end of Kent on East Valley Road begins poultry industry. {{Ref: "Kent... Then and Now ~ 1900 - 1960" p. 72}}
1920's ~ Eggs sell at a dollar a dozen. Tancred strain leghorns bred, hatched, and raised one mile from Kent. Kent farmers raise from 200 to 8,000 hens and establish a breeding program which sells to every country in the world. {{Same reference: "Kent..." p. 73}}
1927 ~ Kent Hatchery demolished. Had shipped 527,000 "Skookum" chicks one year. changed name to Skookum Chix hatcheries. {{Same ref: "Kent..." p. 73}}
1929 ~ CULLING SCHOOL: Any bird that lays less than 135 eggs is considered a "cull" and needs to be separated from the more productive hens that lay 140 to above 200 eggs. {{NEW Source: The Kent Advertiser-Journal, Kent, WA {July 4, 1929} According to Wikipedia.org: Culling is the 'selection' of surplus animals from a flock.
